Atwick – East Riding of Yorkshire
The outline of the Atwick Landing Ground shown in blue with the village of Atwick and the B1242 road on the right. The sea shore is just visible top right.
This WW1 landing ground was situated on the sparsely populated Yorkshire east coast just north of the village of Atwick. Located 3 miles north of the east coast town of Hornsea the Landing Ground was listed as a 2nd class Landing Ground. It covered an area of 50 acres and was located half a mile from the sea.
The site was used on occasions by 76 Squadron RFC. However there is no record of any regular use till May 1918 when it was occupied by 504 Flight of 251 Squadron which operated the DH6 for coastal and anti submarine patrol.
DH6
The landing ground closed after WW1 and there is no trace of the site today.
