8 May 1944 – 554FTS/496FTG, RAF Goxhill - Lockheed P-38J Lightning – 42-67682 - 2Lt Darrel D Kite - Training.
Location - Crashed on farmland 1 mile south east of Barton upon Humber.
Collided with P-51B 42-12190 which is also thought to have crashed. 2Lt Kite was killed. There is no record of the fate of the pilot of the P51B. He must have baled out or crash landed safe.
2Lt Kite was laid to rest at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Lincoln County, Nebraska.
Darrel Kite was born on the 7th January 1921 and came from Dodge County, Nebraska. He was married and his wife Betty had been living in Omaha, Douglas county, Nebraska with their 2 month old son. The young couple had been students together at the University of Omaha.
