12 January 1941 – 49 Squadron, RAF Scampton – Handley Page Hampden I – L4049 - P/O H F P Newhouse RAF – Op Wilhelmshaven
Location – Northorpe 3 miles west of Kirton-in-Lindsey
P/O Newhouse and crew took off from Scampton at 0135 for an attack on Wilhelmshaven. On return the aircraft crashed at Northorpe for unknown reasons. There are reports that the pilot was flying at low level and pulled up sharply to avoid a house losing control. All the crew were killed.

Sgt Leonard Jackson RAF - Air Gunner - 49 Sqn - Prestwich St Mary Churchyard, Lancashire.

The attack on Wilhelmshaven was carried out by 35 aircraft but reports from Wilhelmshaven state that there was almost no damage caused.
This was the second fatal crash near Northorpe village in 5 months. On the 4th September 1940 a 264 Squadron Defiant crashed near the village just after take off from Kirton-in-Lindsey.
