….................

On the night of the 10/11th January 1942 124 aircraft from Bomber Command with 10 from 12 Sqn to attack Wilhelmshaven. Conditions were difficult and results disappointing. The opposition consisted of intense heavy and light flak co-operating with searchlights. Local records record only a light raid with little damage and only 6 injured. Some aircraft bombed alternative targets in the general area. 3 Wellingtons ( 2 of which crashed in the UK on return ) and 2 Hampdens were lost. Returning bombers encountered fog around Lincolnshire and were diverted to airfields further south.
