Sgt J G Blandford RAFVR and crew - 103 Squadron - RAF Elsham Wolds - 1942
Crashed on Landing - 5th May 1942 - Vickers Wellington IC - X9816 - Training.
Vickers Wellington and crew
This aircraft was on a training flight, crashed through a fence landing short of runway and burst into flames. Sgt McGavin was killed and 4 were injured. I believe the actual pilot, whose name is unrecorded in all the official reference works I have at my disposal, was unhurt as was another crew member whose name is also not recorded. I will look into all this further the next time I am down at Kew.
Killed :-
F/S Ian McCulloch McGavin RAFVR - Air Gunner – 21 – 103 Sqn - Son of George McCulloch McGavin and Janet Elliot McGavin, of Stewarton - Mauchline Cemetery, East Ayrshire, Scotland
Injured :-

Sgt J G Blandford did not fly operationally with 103 Squadron and what became of him is unknown to me although he does appear to have survived the war.
