Took off 1812 from Kirmington. Shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at Brakelsiek to the west side of the Schwalenberger Wald approx a mile north west of Schwalenberg and 50 miles short of the target.
Arthuir Pilbeam later recalled one wing was set on fire and the controls damaged. The pilot tried to retain some sort of control to enable the crew to bale out but the aircraft went into a spin and then blew up. He was fortunate to survive and identified 4 of the bodies of his crew mates the next day. None of the parachute release handles had been pulled.
